This print is a 1911 U.S. State Flower Map to which I have added a border from a vintage book. The index, which on the original map was separate, has been added to the bottom.
The map shows 46 state flowers in full color. When it was created in 1911, Alaska , Arizona, and New Mexico were still territories and Hawaii wasn't even on the map.
The idea of the flower map was first conceived by A. W. Butterfield who was to become President of the U.S. State Flower Map Co. of Canby, Oregon. Mr. Butterfield spent approximately two years in research to establish the identity of the appropriate flower for each of the listed 46 states and 3 territories.
The original lithographed maps were stored away in the attic of the W. H. Bair Warehouse and all but forgotten until they were discovered in the 1960s.
Print on fabric canvas with wood poster hanger. Solid walnut or white oak pieces are compressed together by vintage brass ball thumb screws to securely hold the top and bottom of the print. Easy to hang with brass ring and your choice of twine.
+ Solid brass hardware holds prints more securely than magnets. Brass ring prevents twine from wearing and breaking. Brass hardware has a vintage patina.
+ Walnut and white oak wood are naturally beautiful and don't need to be finished with toxic stains or varnishes. Walnut is finished with organic hemp oil and beeswax and white oak is unfinished. Both are sourced from sustainably managed forests.
+ Walnut and white oak are natural materials and there may be variations to wood grain and tone. Walnut ranges in tone from pale warm brown to dark brown and sometimes will have a lighter sapwood in it. I allow the sapwood to show only if it is aesthetically pleasing. White oak is a mix of browns and tans ranging from beige to dark brown. See second to last photo for options.
+ Includes your choice of hemp, black or bakers twine with brass ring for hanging. If you do not choose a twine, hemp is the default option. See last photo for options.
+ Fabric canvas is uncoated to allow the natual woven cotton texture to show through.
+ Canvas and assembled poster hanger are shipped together but the canvas is not installed to avoid damage to the canvas. Installing the canvas is easy and no tools are required. Simply unscrew the thumb screws from the posts and insert the canvas edge in between the wood rails at top and bottom. Tighten the screws and your canvas is ready to hang.
+ 24" x 26" size in Walnut is pictured with Hemp Twine.
+ shipped in 100% plastic free packaging - cardboard box, tissue paper, kraft paper and kraft paper tape with cornstarch adhesive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you make your poster hangers with brass hardware instead of magnets?
Gluing metal to wood is notoriously difficult and requires some heavy duty toxic glue to get them to stay firmly in place. Even then the magnets are not likely to stay glued as wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with the heat and moisture. Eventually they will fall out and then all you are left with are some sticks! Additionally, magnets can lose their strength over time. Brass hardware will never fail.
I do not offer wholesale as I find that business model works best for mass produced goods and my products are not mass produced! I am a one person shop so I prefer to offer my best price all the time to everyone.
